MANX GRAND PRIX - LOCAL HEROES EXHIBITION

An exhibition featuring photographs and memorabilia commemorating the participation of local riders in the Manx Grand Prix Racers is being staged at the Ramsey Heritage Centre, alongside the MER Station on Albert Road, Ramsey. The exhibition was opened on Thursday by Minister of Tourism Adrian Earnshaw and perhaps the islands best known motorcycle ace Geoff Duke OBE. At the opening Adrian Earnshaw and Geoff Duke praised the facilities, which have been provided through the efforts of the Trustees of the Jane Quayle Trust and the Rotary Club of Ramsey, and commented on the large number of local riders who had taken part in the Manx Grand Prix over the years and who were featured in the display. Geoff Duke also gave a personal and very interesting account of his first race in the Manx Grand Prix when he was forced to retire not knowing that he was actually in first place. The display material has been provided from the collection of Wally Radcliffe, and follows very successful displays at the Heritage Centre during TT week and Ramsey National Week. The exhibition will be open 2pm - 4 pm Friday 24th and Saturday 25th August. From Sunday 26th to Friday 31st August the exhibition will be open 2pm - 4pm and in the evenings from 7pm - 9pm.
